  • "A lovely cosy place with a wonderful welcome pack."

. much appreciated the wine after the long drive! Central location to all sight seeing places. Beautiful beach nearby. The cottage itself had a cosy but modern feel with all the amenities you need. Would definitely recommend this little gem.

The property

The Olde Stables rests peacefully in the curve of the River Coquet, adjacent to St. Lawrence's Church in the historic village of Warkworth, Northumberland.

Offering bags of character, this beautiful cottage has been thoughtfully restored to provide homely accommodation for families and friends alike, with wooden-clad walls, low pendant lighting, solid oak doors and quirky features throughout, giving it a sense of style and charm.

Enter straight into the spacious open-plan living room, where you can relax on the sofas with a good book and a drink or switch on the TV to catch up on your favourite shows before preparing a homemade meal for everyone and getting together around the dining table.

The kitchen is wonderfully appointed for all your culinary needs, however there is also a pub/restaurant next door, should you fancy a night off from the cooking.

Climb the carpeted stairs to the first floor, where you can cool off from a long walk in the family shower room, which boasts a double walk-in shower cubicle and a quality finish.

Make the most of the small library on the landing and choose something gripping to read before bed, then head up another set of stairs to find two well-appointed double rooms, one boasting an en-suite cloakroom.

If you can tear yourself away from this delightful retreat, enjoy a lovely stroll around the village and find a plethora of shops, pubs and eateries, along with the imposing Warkworth Castle towering over it all.

Enjoy a walk along the river and uncover the Warkworth Hermitage medieval cave, set within a cliff-face on the north bank near to the castle, a must-see during your visit.

Journey up to Alnmouth and explore its sand dune grassland backing onto the bay, the perfect place for a family day out, walking, wildlife spotting and enjoying picnics.

The whole of the coastline awaits an there are many other attractions including Hadrian's Wall and Holy Island, giving you that much-needed break in a fascinating part of the country.

WARKWORTH

Alnwick 5 miles; Alnmouth 3 miles; Amble 1 mile.

Lying in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast, Warkworth is a picturesque village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th century castle. The history of the village and the castle are intertwined with the Percy Family who took over the castle in 1332. The Percys’ other home is nearby Alnwick Castle, most recently associated with Harry Potter as the film location of Hogwarts School. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries, antiques shops, a village shop/Post Office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade and Tree House Restaurant.
