  • "The Mill Wheel is a very comfortable quirky old cottage but with all the modern conveniences and very well equipped."

It is very well situated for visiting many local attractions and near to good shopping and leisure facilities, yet it is also very peaceful and a very restful place to stay. I loved waking each morning and enjoying the glorious countryside views and watching the many birds on the feeders as well as herons and egrets on the pond nearby. Margaret, Colin and Clare couldn't have been kinder hosts and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

DOVERIDGE

Uttoxeter 3 miles; Ashbourne 12 miles.

The pretty little village of Doveridge lies within easy reach of the Peak District National Park. Doveridge, mentioned in the Domesday Book is nestled amongst beautiful countryside, offering great walking and cycling paths and trails. The village has a small shop/Post Office with a coffee shop. St Cuthbert’s Church dates from before the 13th century and boasts a 1000 year old yew tree which is supported on crutches and under which Robin Hood and Maid Marion were rumoured to have wed. Near the church flows the River Dove with its Victorian suspension footbridge. The village is situated just three miles from the bustling Staffordshire town of Uttoxeter with its larger array of amenities and racecourse. The NT Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood is very close by and offers a fascinating insight into days gone by. The market town of Ashbourne is within driving distance with its eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys and quaint coaching inns and is something of a haven for antique hunters, boasting superb shops, as well as a variety of good pubs and restaurants. The Dove and Manifold Valleys and many other National Trust properties and places of interest are also nearby, and both Carsington Water and Alton Towers are within a 20 minute drive, making this a wonderful location for relaxation and enjoyment all year round.
