In association with Trinity House, we are pleased to present Round Island at Lizard Lighthouse. Located on the southern-most tip of mainland Britain, the six adjacent cottages of Lizard Lighthouse present guests with dazzling scenery and coastal walks right from the doorstep. Rare and beautiful flora and fauna make this cliff top location particularly special. The largest of six former lighthouse keepers' cottages, Round Island is an ideal choice for a unique holiday with family or friends. The dog friendly accommodation includes a general entrance hall leading to the modern and fully equipped kitchen/breakfast room; a separate dining room with sea views; a cosy sitting room with more sea views and a large comfy corner sofa set around a feature fireplace and an electric living flame fire. The modern family bathroom is also located on the ground floor, along with two of the four bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room, and there is an additional cloakroom/wc. The two first floor bedrooms both have sea views and include a king-size and a twin room. Outside, the property enjoys its own enclosed courtyard and allocated parking. Lizard Lighthouse is a fully working lighthouse, first established in 1619. The distinctive two white towers that it is known for today were built in 1751 by private entrepreneur Thomas Fonnereau, and first lit on 22 August of that year. Trinity House gained control of the lights in 1771 and continues to look after its operation to this day. It became electrified in 1924 and then fully automated in 1998. It has a 26 mile light range and an automatic 3 mile fog signal if conditions are misty. The nearby Lizard Village provides shops, restaurants and a friendly pub only ¼ mile away. There are an abundance of other small seaside towns and beaches to explore including St Michael's Mount, St. Ives, Mousehold, Newlyn, Penzance and The Helford River.

Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times. A fantastic setting at the Lizard Lighthouse. The cottage was comfortable and clean. A few things could have been better - bins in each bathroom rather than just one, huge clock in the dining room not secured properly, clothes rack broken and some kitchenware needed replacing. One bedroom on the ground floor showed signs of damp in the walls - a constant problem in the Cornish climate I expect. Very sad to see the Heritage Centre was not open. We appreciated the welcoming pack of biscuits, milk, tea and coffee.

A great location to get away from it all. No wifi and limited mobile signal, but stunning scenery. We had one wet day during our stay when the lighthouse fog horns were sounding nearly all day. The cottage itself is nice and comfortable, but there were a few maintenance issues that needed addressing. Overall though, we had a great time and I would not hesitate to recommend the Lizard peninsula or the lighthouse cottages.

A warm and welcoming cottage that comfortably fitted my large family. Very convenient for Lizard village and location is stunning. Highly recommended it was perfect!

Love the accommodation. The fog horn was atmospheric. The weather was changeable and you need to be aware that this is a working lighthouse so bad weather means lots of fog horn and light flashing. The beds are clean and comfy. The accommodation is perfect for the area and dogs.

Wonderful relaxing holiday at the Lizard Lighthouse. Lovely walks and scenery. I would certainly recommend the Round Island Cottage.
02 April 2022
accommodation first class amusing that upon opening front door there is a convenience both sides of the room. Very useful when arriving and there is a RUSH FOR the toilets! we actually saw a snake whilst on our walk and the whole experience was wonderful. Thank you for such a marvellous experience sandra and nathalie will be back
We had such a lovely stay at round island. The weather was kind the cottage was warm and clean. I have been to this property before and when I walked in I was super surprised to be welcomed by a brand new kitchen and bathrooms (all) they have done such a lovely job. Also beds wow so comfortable so much so I have asked rural retreats where the duvet and pillows are from as they were so dreamy Will definitely be wanting to try another lighthouse property

Beautiful house, the setting is amazing with just a short stroll to the cliff walk. Property very well equipped and clean. The welcome hamper was a nice touch. Beds exceedingly comfortable. So relaxing… would love to return. Our grandchildren were amazed by the lighthouse which you can visit and the fog horn was an experience!

Beautifully clean and warm and such a privilege to have stayed at Round island, one of the Lighthouse cottages. All six cottages were unique in their own way and beautifully managed. Visit the lighthouse before the lantern, as it is now, is replaced.
08 February 2020
Beautiful surroundings and very comfortable house, ideal for adult family
13 January 2020
Very comfortable cottage close to the coast for hiking. The welcome basket with food and wine was a nice surprise. Good service when we had issues with the hot water for the shower. We enjoyed our stay!
04 November 2019
Lovely accommodation in a fantastic location
15 August 2019
Excellent host and location.
08 August 2019
A beautifully presented house (a few areas could do with a lick of paint and one window did not shut properly). Access to the house is down a narrow lane & you often meet oncoming traffic returning from the Lizard. The lighthouse fog horn went off a few times when visibility was poor. However this does not detract from the overall experience which was excellent & the views are stunning. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch.
27 July 2019
We had a wonderful long weekend at The Round Island for my OH 50th birthday. It was a perfect choice size wise for our grown up family and staying in the lighthouse was such an amazing experience... little touches made it very special and the earplugs were put to use during the early morning fog (we were delighted! 😊)
06 May 2019
Fantastic location, amazing views, Interesting tour of the Lighthouse . Delicious high quality hamper awaiting us on arrival. Coastguard ‘cottage’ accommodation, spacious, good quality looking out to sea next to south West coast path. Perfect holiday location.
24 April 2019
As usual Rural Retreats came up trumps great accommodation fantastic property we were impressed.Your agent Carrie Mitchell was very helpful and very professional. The only issue was and we were advised that there is no Wifi , we really needed this but we did get Wifi in the village so we're able to get stuff we needed, but some of our party wanted Netflix and Amazon prime ! anyway we all had a fantastic time and would come again to Lizard Lighthouse .thank you.
07 March 2019
Lovely comfortable cottage in fabulous location. The welcome hamper was a real bonus - great start to our holiday. The lack of private outside space might have been a small issue in the summer but not in Feb. The only thing which could have been better was the lack of any power/pressure in the showers. Overall a great experience.
24 July 2018
Lovely accommodation. Amazing spot. Only problems that we experienced were that the microwave didn’t work and the washing machine flooded onto the kitchen floor so we couldn’t use that again .
