• "A lovely stay at Nathaniel's cottage."

  House was so cosy on our arrival, and had everything we needed for a cup of tea on arrival (thank you). Beds were so comfortable, and we loved the log burner in the living room. An ideal base, and so handy having two small supermarkets and plenty of shops with in walking distance. Parking was very easy too on the quiet street. We hadn't even left and had booked back in for next year.

• "Kirkcudbright is absolutely lovely, the people are friendly and it's a wonderful place to visit with lots to see and do."

  I would not recommend this cottage though for a number of reasons: 1) Wallpaper hanging down on the sloping ceiling above the bed in the twin room. 2) Hole in the wall by the table in the dining room. 3) Kick board removed from under the dishwasher etc in the kitchen and left leaning against the wall in the dining room - which I'm guessing had something to do with the ant killer bottle nestled in between the microwave and the kitchen roll in the kitchen. 4) Door to the bathroom was broken and wouldn't remain shut without being locked. Not ideal when you have children who want privacy on the toilet but are at risk of locking themselves in. 5) Paint peeled off a whole section of the kitchen door.

• "We enjoyed our stay at Nathaniels Cottage however just a few things to mention - the shortage of towels - 1 hand towel and two bath towels between two adults is not enough."

  The lighting in the twin bedded room is inadequate to read in bed at night and the sink in the bathroom really needs looking at as this is very slow draininng and is probably blocked.

• "Beautiful clean comfortable cottage close to all amenities."

  However when we arrived there was no power to the plug sockets in the kitchen so the fridge was off, we called the property manager who advised us the fuse box was above the front door and advised us to stand on a chair to reach it. 4 days into our trip there was no hot water so another call and text to the property manager who advised us to switch the boiler off and on to reset it, we then had to do this continuously a couple of times a day until we left. There was also a problem with ants in the kitchen, which we resolved and the owner kindly offered to reimburse us for the food we lost.

• "Nathaniel’s Cottage is a sweet little house in a lovely, quiet location within a fascinating town."

  Unfortunately the overall impression we got was that it was all a little tired - wonky drawer in one of the bedrooms, kitchen units were a bit weary, lovely looking shower but the water pressure was really disappointing. Just a bit more effort on cleaning and maintenance and this would have been a five star gem.

• "Cottage well situated in town."

  Kirkcudbright is wonderful and worth a visit, but we won't return to this cottage. Back door in need of redecoration, it is tatty inside. Air circulation in property poor as there are no trickle valves on the double glazing. Security poor - a simple yale-type lock on a front door in inadequate, and the back gate was impossible to bolt - even though the notes said that the back gate would be locked. Over a dozen instructions dotted around the house, plus a folder and a noticeboard! Most properties manage with just a folder. Back 'garden' and 'courtyard' were disappointing - vertical garden unsafe/impossible to use. The 'courtyard' was no more than a place to store bins and some strange storage box. Owner's attitude seemed sanctimonious and misogynistic when we asked if the Sky pin could be removed - why inflict a pin-protected watershed on adult customers? No customer should be called 'pushy' - maybe Sykes could provide this owner with some basic customer care training?

  We are sorry that you were unhappy issues at the property. Guests have left the recycling bins on the road (as many residents do) to increase space. The notices help guests access info quicker if they’ve not read the manual & this method has proved popular. The back door has been painted last year, but I will review this & thank you for bringing it to our attention. I believe you wished to have the private SKY code to watch catch up tv & this is not required for that function. Kind regards Property Owner

• "A very comfortable and well equipped cottage."

  The location could hardly be bettered: on a quiet residential street, with all major attractions and necessities just a few minutes' walk away. Parking was never a problem, and we enjoyed sitting in the secluded patio area when the sun shone. The varied art works hanging on the walls were a welcome bonus.

  Outside space could be improved by tidying up, parasol and position of bins. Access to back garden should be gated if little children staying. Beds very comfy, walk in shower excellent.

• "This is my second visit to Nathaniel's."

  I was caught in lockdown on my first visit and the owners couldn't have been kinder and more understanding, when my ongoing bookings (and flight back to the US) were cancelled. That trip, the walled garden, providing a private outdoor space, was a godsend. Finally being able to fully enjoy Kirkcudbright merely deepened my appreciation for it. The cottage itself is nigh on to being perfect. However, I do agree with those who have noted the need for a companion set for the fire. I would add a small item that would also be helpful - a ladle for soups and stews. I have already begun saving for a third trip, which tells you all you need to know about this warm and inviting cottage.

• "The cottage is really nice, a homely feel."

  The large double bed is super. I am reluctant to say how good it was as it will be difficult to book in the future lol. A message to the owner, there is a broken bit of gutter on the back of the house which should be fixed asap. The drain can overflow a little and flows into the small yard. These things did little to dent our pleasure at staying in your cottage, they are just advice. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

  The scores above reflect this. Kirkcudbright itself is lovely, as are the locals and it makes a great base for touring the area. The cottage was warm and comfortable. There are three points that we should make which in no way detract from our overall review. 1) Recycling was confusing as the schedule seemed out of date, 2) a proper rubbish bin in the kitchen would have been helpful (yes, floor space is a bit limited) and 3) we must confess to inadvertently purloining a table knife in a tin containg a home made cake. We will post it back!

  The cottage was perfect, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, beautiful furnishings and all the kitchen equipment you could need. Location was great with easy on street parking Lovely little outside space. I would definately recommend this cottage.

• "This is a beautiful cottage in an ideal location, only one street back from the main street."

  Not only is the cottage beautifully furnished but there were various additional touches such as flowers on the dining table, canisters of tea and coffee, milk and biscuits left for us in the fridge (we're vegan so didn't use these, but it was a nice touch) and boxes of tissues in the lounge and bedrooms. Also books and DVDs available for use. Sky TV, but we couldn't get it to work, not sure what we were doing wrong as we don't have sky at home. Truly like a home from home, would definitely go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation.

• "The cottage needs a few improvements."

  We chose the cottage mainly because of the log burner but NO LOGS as stated in the description. Rusty radiators, rusty clothes airers, rusty shower rack they just do not look good. Stains on the bedding did not make me feel confident of cleanliness in the whole cottage. Kitchen needs some work, flooring, walls, extractor did not work and was greasy. The courtyard could do with a tidy up and the garden is too steep to use. We know covid has made things difficult but it really was disappointing for our first holiday in 2 years. The cottage could be fantastic as its in a great town, and a great location and the people were so friendly, even the weather was brilliant.

• "Sofas needs updating as are past their best."

  The extractor fan on cooker not working leading to condensation on kitchen walls and dampness. Have stayed previously and the location is ideal for facilities in Kirkcudbright. If we stayed in Kirkcudbright again we would likely look for alternative accommodation.

• "Great location in the lovely town of Kirkcudbright."

  Both bedrooms and the bathroom appear recently redone and were very comfortable. We were disappointed, however, in the condition of the kitchen. We found a stack of greasy pans inside the oven upon arrival as well as a dirty window ledge, a rusty wok pan, and food residue in the microwave. These did not give us confidence that the advertised deep cleaning (due to COVID) had taken place. We contacted the owner who responded quickly with an apology and a promise to remedy the situation. Jo explained that she had been unable to visit the cottage in the last several months due to COVID travel restrictions and has been relying on her housecleaner to keep things up. I hope she can get the cleaning sorted soon as it was otherwise a delightful place to stay.

• "This was our second visit to Nathaniel's Cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

  The key pick up was straightforward. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Although sited in the centre of Kirkcudbright, it was quiet too. We had some lovely meals out including at the Selkirk Arms and also at The Auld Alliance where the staff went the extra mile for my son's birthday - the meal was outstanding too. Plenty to do round and about. - villages to visit and lots of pleasant walks. Enjoyed a visit to Threave Gardens and Castle Douglas. The King's Arms iin Castle Douglas is worth a visit for a meal. We would stay here again.

• "We had to leave a day early because of a national cycling event."

  The street parking was restricted on our last day. Streets around closed. No warning from Sykes at all. Caretaker informed us Wednesday by note. Danger of car being towed away. Cottage fine, area great, won't use Sykes again.

  We didn't think the side garden was useable at all as it's quite steep, maybe it could be terraced, to give some flat areas but as we were only two people the little patio was adequate.

• "The location pf the cottage was below our expectation, with having noviews on the back- being blocked by a high retaining wall and also the front view was of a road junction."

  We had stayed in much better cottages here with gardens and open views at much lower prices! Also there was no garden as such, only a cramped courtyard with unusable garden furniture- these need painting and renovation. Inside the cottage was clean and satisfactory, but the price was rather high for the standard. We will not re-visit this cottage.

  Beds were superb. Future guest please note mobile reception and wifi speed were very good. Lots and lots of extras included in good working order. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feed back for Sykes - -Hi i do not understand why you fail to promote the wifi speed and mobile phone reception for your cottages. The wi fi in this cottage was exceptional and if such information was available on your site , would have been the key reason to book.

  From Goodies in the fridge, the bacon n sausage were delicious, thankyou, to helpful hints in various places around the cottage. The flower filled courtyard at the side of the cottage is a little suntrap. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathroom and it’s under floor heating, a treat to use. The thoughtful gesture of the gift voucher for Castle Street Bistro, was used and much appreciated. Will be returning

• "We had a lovely few days in Kirkcudbright and the weather matched the forecast."

  A lovely cottage close to the centre of the town with a supermarket within a three minute walk. The cottage had all the facilities we required and was in a quiet area. The surrounding area was superb. We particularly enjoyed the red kite feeding experience and the lovely views and coast line. A very enjoyable time!
