There are strict rules in place for dogs sleeping arrangements. The surrounding village has no shops, and there is only one pub doing food on the outskirts of the village. The other pub looks run down. A lovely cottage, very welcoming hosts. Returned an item left by us at the cottage. Thank you

"Comfortable, spotless and extremely good location for travelling to the local beauty spots."
We visited Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay, Pickering, Thornton Le Dale. Great pub down the road ( Go left outside the cottage) The Coachman. We were so comfortable in May Cottage, the water was hot the Heating was wonderful and the beds were comfy. Definitely would stay again. The parking was an absolute bonus too.

The little welcome pack was a lovely touch, as was the personal call from the owners to check that everything was alright. It is on a main road so there is noise at night but this might not bother everyone.

"On arrival at May Cottage we were pleasantly surprised at how the Cottage had been decorated."
It certainly made our Christmas feel like home from home. The cottage is a little gem. It was warm, inviting and the cleanliness was of a very high standard. There was everything to hand and the owners were welcoming and not intrusive. The property certainly has a relaxing vibe and there are plenty of walks nearby for your furry friends. We will most certainly be returning.

"We had a fantastic week at May Cottage."
It’s a lovely property, was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with great facilities. Owners Michael and Julia were friendly and welcoming, on hand next door if needed but also respectful of our privacy too.
The location is great for both North York Moors National Park, villages and coastline - there’s so much to do. We were also given a friendly welcome by the locals in the Peacock pub over the road, who have a free pool table (very popular with our so !) and serve great local ales brewed in Snainton.
Bring your own washing up brush and liquid as well as your supplies.
We’ll be back to explore more!

"Wow first impression spotlessly clean and smells lovely, inside and out has the wow factor."
Parking literally just outside the enclosed back patio perfect for our furboy met by Julia owner who went through need to know basics welcome gift basket of tea coffee milk and biscuits and fresh flowers a very nice touch. Upstairs 2 very large bedrooms and bathroom also separate toilet downstairs which was perfect for us oldies. The best welcome information folder I have seen explains all the questions I would have asked. Beds are super comfy best I’ve slept on beautiful decor throughout with gorgeous soft furnishings very cozy. Luxurious m&s towels sheets and top quality pots pans cutlery lots of books games and Netflix the area is perfect for touring Scarborough Whitby Pickering and beautiful villages May cottage is just stunningly beautiful credit to Julia and Michael if we had one comment it would be the settees are a little low down for us oldies but don’t take that away from everything else and thank you so much for letting us stay in your fabulous cottage we will definitely return. Booking through Sykes always a pleasure.

"We very much enjoyed our stay at May Cottage."
The accommodation is very clean and comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and as we were lucky enough to have sunny weather, we made full use of the little garden area. The owners were friendly and welcoming and the groceries they left for us were much appreciated. There are some good dog walks around the village and there is lots to do for all ages in the area.

Being on the bus route between Pickering and Scarborough and near some lovely walks if you don’t want to use the car. The owners are very friendly and the workmanship in the cottage a credit to them. The cottage is well equipped to self cater. The coachman pub is a short walk away and serves lovely food. The staff are lovely and it is dog friendly.

Excellent dog friendly cottage with all the facilities you can need and extremely friendly, accommodating owners who make you feel very welcome whilst remaining unobtrusive. Unbelievably clean and well maintained. Parking is very handy and location is great, giving easy drives out to Thornton le Dale, Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby and York. Can't fault it, looking forward to booking again in the future.

"A brilliant place to stay."
We were two adults and two children and the location and cottage were everything we needed. The cottage was a really good size and very well equipped. The only thing missing for us was a washing machine, but other than that couldn’t fault it. Lovely owners who gave us some great recommendations too.

May Cottage provided the perfect base from which to relax and enjoy the local area and beyond. We explored parts of the North Yorkshire coast that we hadn’t managed before. Julia and Mick were lovely hosts and sharing their local knowledge with us enhanced our experience. The cottage was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable with lovely artwork throughout. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone that wants to be able to enjoy various walks from the doorstep but within easy driving distance of lots of lovely beaches.

"Beautiful Cottage, very clean and comfortable."
The hosts were very welcoming and the welcome package of milk, tea bags etc is a nice touch. The property is located in a great area for exploring the North Ridding. There is a nice pub 100m away and the locals were very friendly and chatty. The only drawback is the road noise at night if you have the windows open.

The beds were super comfortable and the shower and bath fantastic. It was a great base to explore the east Yorkshire coastline and north Yorkshire Moors.

Fully equipped with everything you could need plus a nice little welcome hamper and a folder detailing local walks, pubs etc. Cottage was finished to a high standard, was unbelievably clean and felt very safe with emergency lighting, fire doors, extinguishers etc. Owners live next door and were very friendly but totally unobtrusive. Stayed for a week in early May 2023 and intend to visit again.

"Lovely holiday cottage."
The building is a converted barn, and has been renovated to a very high standard, very clean and tidy, and everything has been thought of, everything you need in the kitchen, all new and clean. A lovely touch of a welcome basket with essentials, included on arrival.
May Cottage is centrally located in the village, with easy access to local walks, and a short drive to the top of the riding, with superb views. The owners are delightful and unobtrusive, and nothing was too much trouble, I am sure.

"Me my partner and 2 dogs booked this on the morning of 28th December for 1 week last minute get away and it did not disappoint."
Cottage is so cosy warm and extremely clean. We met Michael briefly when we arrived and he was very helpful and friendly. So cosy and all kitchen equipment was a high standard. The bed was so comfortable and the shower is amazing. Great wifi as I was working a few days during my stay and had no issues whatsoever. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and we are already planning on going back very soon. Thanks Michael and Julia for a perfect last minute getaway we are very grateful.

"May Cottage exceeded our expectations in every way."
It has been renovated to a very high standard, the beds were very comfortable, and although the property was on the high street, the traffic noise was negligible. The owners who live next door were very welcoming. The property is ideally situated being close to the coast, but away from the bustle, and also convenient for trips inland to Pickering etc. Our grand-daughter thought the cottage was magical.

The property is ideally situated for exploring the area. We were really happy with the standard of the property, it was very comfortable, had everything we needed and to say immaculately clean is an understatement!
It is clear a great deal of love and attention has been put into the cottage. The brilliant paintings and little quirks make it a special place. Julia and Michael could not have been better hosts and are genuinely lovely people. We will be back!

May Cottage is well placed for visiting many places without travelling too far and has a lovely pub The Coachman with good food just a short walk away. There are some pretty walks around the village. Everything clean and fresh. Lovely decor. Comfy bed (we used the back bedroom) super luxury bedding. The bathroom and power shower were fantastic. Very nice welcome basket was appreciated. "May Cottage is a truly beautiful place to stay."
So much attention to detail and beautiful styling, a real pleasure to be in. Everything about this Cottage has been done to a very high standard and the result is a relaxing place to stay. The appliances and heating were simple to use and all instructions provided. The courtyard rear is a real sun trap and although small it is secure and private and even in March we sat outside and enjoyed eating Al fresco. The bed in the master bedroom is supremely comfortable, we did not use the second bedroom but everything about this Cottage is quality so I would imagine it would be of the same high standard as the master bedroom. The whole cottage was spotlessly clean. May Cottage has private parking which is a real bonus being on the high street. The Cottage is on the main road but noise is not an issue, yes you can hear the traffic but it just melts into the background and does not detract in any way from the overall lovely ambience of staying here. Micheal and Julia the owners live next door and they are a really lovely couple. On hand for anything if needed and a friendly Good Morning but never obtrusive. I would highly recommend staying at May Cottage as a base for any reason and would definitely book here again.

It was immaculate and the extra touches like the welcome basket and pumpkins for Halloween and fresh flowers were a lovely touch. We have stayed in various cottages but this was by far the most extra special.
The big beds were so comfortable and the shower so powerful. We look forward to visiting again in 2022.

I especially appreciated the fresh flowers on our arrival and selection of refreshments like tea, cappuccino and milk in the fridge, which was very handy. There was everything we needed and lovely owners Julia and Michael just next door, made sure we are OK. The property is located on the main road so easy to get to places in no time. We have also enjoyed lovely walks with our dog around Snainton.

Perfect location for walking and visiting local pla es of interestsof which there are plenty- highlights for us were walking on Levisham Moor, the walk from Goathland to Grosmont and returning by steam train,everything about the North York Moors Railway and exploring the local villages.Stayed x6 nights .

"We loved our stay at May Cottage."
The cottage was spotless on arrival, spacious rooms and more than enough cutlery, and pots and pans so it is easy to have meals in. Smart TV was a bonus so we could watch Netflix on an evening! It is in a lovely location great for dog walks and not too far a drive to get to Scarborough, Whitby and Cayton Bay. Nearby pubs were nice. We have a nervous rescue dog who absolutely loved his stay he was so relaxed. Michael and Julia were so nice and we really appreciated the milk and welcome pack with tea bags ect on arrival, thanks so much for a lovely stay.

Beds really comfy, toilet downstairs as well as bathroom upstairs. Large kitchen. Only downside was some road noise which you hear upstairs in the bedrooms, I was ok but my teenage daughter did struggle with the noise at night. A set of earplugs did the job. Would definitely go back again

The cottage is superbly located to explore the North Yorkshire Moors & all it has to offer, and the East Coast is also easily accessible. The owners Michael and Julia are lovely, and always available if needed & are extremely knowledgeable about the area & further afield. The welcome basket provided is really thoughtful, right down to the milk in the fridge. This was our second visit to the cottage but definitely will not be our last.

It has been renovated to a high standard and decorated extremely tastefully ,preserving the character of the property with interesting up to date styling .
The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival with care and attention to the covid requirements.
The owners are warm and welcoming and you genuinely feel that it is important to them that you have enjoyed your stay.
The outside space is small but means if you have a dog you can let them out safely .
It is a little sun trap with pretty plants.
The setting for exploring the area is prefect with lots to see and do and there are 2 pubs close by which is convenient and both are nice and friendly.

The village location is ideally placed to explore all the delights of this part of Yorkshire, with
easy reach of the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Bridlington. The Cleveland Way and the Cinder Track are also close by suiting walkers and cyclists.
We had a fantastic weeks stay her and would especially recommend May Cottage to couples. The owners of the property are friendly, helpful and very Knowledgeable of the local area.

The cottage is immaculate and the owners have gone above and beyond the make your stay comfortable and a home from home. Spotless and roomy with a lovely area at the back to sit outside and enjoy the odd glass or two of wine in the sun. Upstair bathroom with lovely shower and downstairs toilet too.

"May Cottage is beautiful!"
We (4 adults and 2 dogs) stayed for 7 nights and the facilities were perfect! There was parking for 2 cars and the cottage itself was big enough to accommodate us all.
The cottage itself was cleaned to the highest of standards and made our stay not only pleasant but made us feel safe in these times! The Cottage has everything that you need, a well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack that Julia & Mike left was a nice added touch (the dogs loved their treats too).

Friendly owners who left us a helpful welcome basket with added extras to keep our children happy!
Very comfy beds and a large bath and powerful shower meant a great start to the day.
Local pub ‘the coachman’ was a short walk and had friendly owners and was great to see locals arriving on their horses.
The cottage is situated ideally for exploring the coast and moors and has lovely local walks through the surrounding countryside.

May cottage is well equipped apart from not finding suitable bowls for the microwave.

"May cottage was a fantastic place to stay."
We were a family of four plus one dog and it felt like home. The hosts were superb...very friendly and approachable. The cottage is close to two local pubs and a fantastic fish and chip shop. The cottage was spotless and very modern. If I'm honest, we didn't want to leave this review as we want to keep the cottage quiet but feel the owners deserve credit. We will certainly return in the near future.

Resting in the heart of the pretty village of Snainton is this lovely, semi-detached 18th Century barn conversion, May Cottage.
Restored to a beautiful standard with the original beams retained, this cottage provides the ideal base for families wanting to explore the nearby coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, as well as the small fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay, plus the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park.
The open-plan living area has been tastefully decorated with oak wooden floors throughout, contemporary kitchen with dining area with seating area with two leather sofas with Smart TV and electric woodburner add to the modern but comfortable living area.
Upstairs plays host to two wonderful bedrooms, one featuring a super-king and the other a king size, both available as zip and link for more flexibility.

Outside is an enclosed patio where you can enjoy your morning cuppa whilst planning for the day ahead.
The seaside town of Scarborough is 12 miles east from May Cottage, with two beautiful sandy bays.
The South bay offers The Spa, harbours, amusements, a castle on the headland and The Rotunda Museum.
The North bay offers beach huts, SEALIFE Centre, Mini Railway, Peasholm Park, Open Air Theatre and Alpamare Water Park and Spa.
In Scarborough town is Stephen Joseph Theatre in the round, made famous by our very own Sir Alan Ayckbourn, and there are a variety of shops, cafés and restaurants.
Further up the coast is the small fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay and historic town of Whitby.
Whitby has connections to Captain Cook and Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, the bustling harbour is overlooked by the Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey a source of Bram Stoker’s writing inspirations.
Travelling west from May Cottage through the lovely village of Thornton-Le-Dale to Pickering where you can board the steam train to the North Yorkshire Moors, stopping at Goathland is a must-see celebrity station which became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film.
The charming village of Goathland is just a few minutes’ walk up the bank from the station, with a great range of shops and pubs.
Dalby Forest is a very popular for walkers, mountain bike riding, go ape and open-air theatre.
Flamingo Land is a short drive with is wild rides and zoo.
Take the A64 to towards York and visit Castle Howard stately home on the way.
York is a walled city that was founded by the ancient Romans, featuring a 13th Century Gothic Cathedral, York Minister, City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse.
The Jorvik Centre has Viking remains, with a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes.
The famous ‘Shambles’ an old street dating back to the 14th Century.
Snainton village has two pubs with restaurants, fish shop, general stores, two churches, riding centre, golf range and park.

The lovely, country village of Snainton is situated at the foot of the North York Moors and is an ideal location from which to explore the popular coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. Snainton boasts two pubs serving food, a fabulous riding centre catering for all ages and abilities, and an excellent children’s playground. A driving range with par 3, 9 hole golf course is close by and many walks, cycle rides and country drives can be found in the vicinity. Experience Scampston Walled Garden with its renowned restaurant, enjoy a day’s fishing at Wykeham, 4 miles away, or visit Dalby Forest with its good walking, mountain biking and “Go Ape” walks for the more adventurous! Pickering, with its famous steam railway, castle and Beck Isle Museum, and the historic city of York are both within easy driving distance.
