The property
Resting in a prominent position alongside the Rivers Taw and Torridge in Appledore, Devon and boasting magnificent estuary views is Mariners Cottage.
This charming cottage offers a lovely garden with dining furniture and a cosy woodburning stove, making it the ideal base for a group of friends to explore Devon's delights.
On arrival at the property, step into the kitchen/diner where you will find all the appliances you need to rustle up delicious meals for the group to enjoy at the dinner table, such as an induction hob, an electric oven and an all-important dishwasher to assist with the clean up.
From here, fling open the patio doors and let the fresh sea air in; the space also hosts a sofa and an armchair, perfect for admiring the views from.
Moving through the property, the sitting room invites you in to kick off your shoes after a long day of exploring the local area and snuggle up with your loved one to watch TV while the woodburning stove warms the space.
As the evening grows darker, venture to the bedrooms to rest your head before another action-packed day out.
The cottage hosts three bedrooms including a ground-floor king-size double perfect for those with limited mobility, as well as a super king-size and a twin upstairs, for a flexible sleeping arrangement for any type of group.
Each bedroom follows a delightful nautical-chic theme, with calming blues and bright whites allowing an abundance of natural light into the space.
Guests will also benefit from a shower room on the first floor fitted with a walk-in shower, a basin and a WC, where the group can freshen up and prepare for another adventurous day of exploring, additionally there is a useful downstairs WC and basin.
In the warmer months, take advantage of the outdoor space at the property, where you will find a variety of estuarine plants and furniture so you can enjoy a spot of dining in the last of the summer sun as you gaze out over the glorious views.
Treat yourself to a meal out at one of the nearby restaurants such as The Royal George, or perhaps indulge in some fish and chips from The Royal Plaice to enjoy on the waterfront.
Spend an afternoon strolling through the Northam Burrows Country Park and exploring the untouched grasslands along the coastal plains.
The North Devon Maritime Museum is within walking distance from the property and sure to be a fascinating visit where you can learn about the rich history of shipbuilding and seafaring.
A short trip in the car or a long scenic walk will take you to Westward Ho where you spend a day at the beach, building sandcastles and eating ice cream before enjoying a tasty meal at one of the cafés and restaurants.
There are numerous activities to take up in the area such as surfing, golf, fishing and plenty of other watersports.
Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to The Big Sheep, for a fun-filled day of sheep racing, and if the timing is right you may get there for lambing season.
While you are in the area, why not take a day trip to Bideford to do some shopping and discover the art galleries before grabbing dinner and heading back to the cottage.

APPLEDORE

Where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet, sits the delightful quayside village of Appledore, next to the River Torridge. Appledore boasts a small but great range of shops, pubs, guesthouses and art galleries. A thriving fishing and trading village since the 14th century, Appledore has been a famous boat-building centre for many years and the shipyard is still active today. Picturesque Appledore provides a peaceful base from which to explore North Devon, and is close to surf beaches.The Quay is very central to life in the village and it is here you will find many activities including fishing trips, crabbing contests on the quay, and sometimes Morris Dancers. This quaint fishing village has a maze of narrow streets leading to the quay.
Just four miles from Appledore,straddling the Torridge estuary, is the quaint bustling town of Bideford boasts a medieval bridge, town quay, quaint pannier market and vibrant shopping area - all well worth a visit. For the more active, several major surfing beaches, golf courses, theme parks and other attractions are nearby and the South West coast path passes close by on its way into Cornwall. The beautiful cliff-top fishing village of Clovelly is half an hour by road, and the delights of Exmoor and Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour. Surf the waves, stroll through pretty villages, wander along the Tarka Trail, visit a famous garden or have some fun at one of the local theme or farm parks – it’s all on the doorstep.
