• "Gorgeous place, gorgeous views, amazing beds/shower/kitchen/bath, etc etc… the place is exactly as described - so the following is by no means a moan however just a few things that I think are helpful to point out."

  Firstly, it would be a helpful addition to have a slim coffee table at either end of the L-configured sofas just to pop a mug on when sitting at the far ends (where the sofas meet there’s a cabinet to put things on). If there are more than two people, those stuck on the ends have to put their drinks on the floor. There’s not a lot of room but a magazine rack with a slim table top would do the trick. Secondly, we set off the heat alarm whilst using the oven to cook, easily remedied second time round cooking by having the front door open but when it first happened it took a good ten minutes or more to get the alarms to stop (calls to the number in the email for assistance just told me the office was closed). Might be worth mentioning in the guest booklet that this alarm is sensitive and to be mindful of letting fresh air in while cooking as there is no extractor. Lastly, the parking. Yes I expect hills in Cumbria but the cottage is near the top of the steepest slope we came across the whole holiday (a single track road which has a sheer drop the other side) so just bear that in mind if you’re a nervous driver. I had butterflies every time I got in the car to go anywhere but they got less and less, so if I can do it anyone can :)

• "The third time we have stayed at Honeypot Cottage, and an enjoyable stay again."

  The owners have given a lot of thought to the fitting-out and furnishing of the cottage and it's a very relaxing and peaceful place to stay. The information folder is comprehensive and thoughtfully put together. We couldn't find any information on bin collection and recycling which would be helpful. There were no small kitchen knifes this year - they seem to have gone missing and are obviously a fairly essential bit of kitchen equipment. A masher would also be helpful. • "Absolutely beautiful cottage in an idyllic rural position away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist destinations."

  Despite the mixed weather we spent much of our time relaxing at the top of the garden enjoying the wonderful scenery. We enjoyed it so much we even booked another week before we left !

• "We had such a wonderful stay at Honeypot Cottage."

  A great location for exploring the Lake District and there were even some lovely walks local to the cottage. The views were spectacular and our daughter loved waving to the farmers as they passed in the tractors, every single one waved back. I read English Pastoral by James Rebanks and it perfectly fit the surroundings. The beds were so soft and comfortable, it was lovely to open the window and hear the birds and the wildlife and even an owl hooting at night. A wide selection of games and DVDs, we really reconnected as a family, not just to each other but to nature and the outdoors too. Our eight year old says “it’s the best cottage ever!”

• "Absolutely fantastic place!"

  So cosy, quiet and comfortable and beautifully clean. There are walks nearby without the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas of the district, although these can easily be reached if this is what you are looking for. There is a lovely pub serving food just down the road if you don’t feel like cooking in the very well appointed kitchen the cottage provides. We would love to stay with you again.

• "First the good bits… the cottage is in a great location with fantastic views, a lovely garden, great walks and a nice pub nearby."

  As for the not-so-good bits: the chimney needs sweeping urgently – the room filled with smoke every time we opened the wood burner door to add fuel (we've has a wood burner for 20 years, so we know what we're doing with one. The twin bedroom needs a really good dusting – our sons coughed and wheezed their way through our stay. One of the four dining chairs fell apart as soon as we picked it up to move it, and the chest in the sitting room stank of vomit when opened (I assume someone put a dirty toy back in there and just left it). On top of that, the bathroom tap handles unscrewed and fell into the basin with alarming regularity and there were only two glass tumblers (one cracked) for a family of four. It also needs to be made clearer that there is no wifi – we only found out from previous visitors' comments prior to our stay. I don't want to sound like a moaner – this would be an amazing place to stay if the maintenance/cleaning regime was better.

  This is a lovely cottage very clean great location for getting round the lakes would benefit from additions such as hooks on back of doors in bedrooms and bathroom and a decent corkscrew The negative though is was not until we got there we found there is no wifi the book there gives the reason as wanting to having a relaxing holiday but wifi is helpful for online banking and other activities I think this information should be in the advert as it gives people a choice and for us if we had known would have probably not booked this cottage but otherwise a good stay

  This cottage is so beautiful just like one on postcard with spectacular views from the garden Beams throughout the cottage Lovely big kitchen/diner with large range Comfy lounge to relax after a busy day sightseeing just right for reading Lots of board games & books provided The view from the garden is breathtaking just lovely to sit with a glass of wine & take in the countryside Lovely large double bedroom with kingsize bed & ensuite shower over bath Twin bedroom with loads of room It has a wet room downstairs & a lovely powerful shower The Wheatsheaf pub within walking distance about 10 mins away down hill does lovely meals best to book gets very busy We liked the Hare & Hounds Leven the best book early Amazing food went a couple of times Also the Black Labrador in Underbarrow down past the Wheatsheaf about 2 miles away nice good There’s Aldi Asda & Sainsbury’s in Kendal 5 mile away so buy shopping before you arrive plus they sell petrol Snout 40 mins from Lake Windermere & a boat trip is must Bookable there or online Ambleside not far from there a lovely village & nice pubs serving food outside dining is lovely Visit the caves at White Scar 90 mins guided tour £14 each we’ll worth it there over 2 million years old just jaw dropping Grassmere is very pretty village & lots to see gets very busy in the summer I’m sure you’ll love it as much as we did

• "The security lighting was switched off upon arrival and as check in was after 18."

  00 it would have been useful to have some form of external lighting as we found it a struggle to carry luggage and use our mobile phones to provide light. There was only one log for the fire which was not an issue as the heating was more than adequate although we had to override it overnight. Apart from these two minor issues the cottage was clean, warm, comfortable and quiet. We would definitely stay again. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

• "Honeypot cottage Was spotless when we arrived, and the condition of the property was fantastic better than we had hoped."

  We have stayed in many cottages and this was by far the cleanest upon arrival. The location set on the hillside giving fabulous sunset views from the garden, was an added bonus. The Wheatsheaf pub at the bottom of the hill is open for outdoor dining and drinks Wednesday to Sunday currently and the food was a limited choice but very nice all the same. There was a couple of minor issues with the cottage. The bed was a little hard for our liking and took some getting used too. And the Log burner, we had brought some wood with us as we were unsure if there was going to be any at the property, but after reading the welcome pack it said only use dry wood from the wood store out back. Unfortunately the wood store was bare, but not a problem as we had brought some. But I wasn’t expecting no means to light the fire, not a match or lighter anywhere on the property. In properties with burners, I’d always expect a welcome pack of wood and a couple of fire lighters and some matches at least to get you started. But I would happily return to the Honeypot cottage if I was staying in the South Lakes area again.

  It was exactly like the photographs . It was super clean . It had everything one would need for a holiday . Great information in the hand book . It was really useful for things like the heating , using the fire and the wet room . The cottage was in a good area and quite a central area if you have a car . Beautiful scenery to wake up to each morning.

• "Brilliant cottage."

  My partner booked us a little get away for new years eve with our 2 small children. We really switched off and enjoyed things around us. Good location and close enough to a variety of daily activities for my kids. Plenty of games and books for when we didn't want to go anywhere, loved the bath for some quiet time when the kids went to bed. Thoroughly enjoyable holiday.... topped off my my partner proposing in the garden at midnight on new years eve with a bottle of bubbly while we watched other peoples fireworks!

• "The cottage looks cute and lovely."

  The aga looks like a lovely touch. However, on closer inspection the place is in desperate need of a clean. I don’t know when someone last cleaned behind the bed heads or under the sofa but it was thick with dirt and dust. My baby at one point was about to put a finger nail clipping in his mouth that wasn’t ours. The heating is far far to hot. The thermometer on our baby monitor was saying that the bedroom was 25 degrees as one point so we had to have windows open and the heating on. There was shards of glass in the dishwasher that wasn’t from us using it. In all the place needs cleaning, deeply.

  It was very comfortable and in a good location for visiting the southern Lake District. The lane outside is very steep and parking the car on such a steep hill took a bit of getting used to, but we mastered it!

• "We really liked the cottage which was warm and comfortable."

  I loved the Aga and experimented with using it to cook. This would have been a lot easier if a set of kitchen scales had been available! Have definitely decided that I would love to own an Aga but also am certain that I do not want a wet room! Once the floor was thoroughly wet it was impossible to get out of the door without paddling!

• "We found the cottage to be well provisioned with everything we needed."

  It was spotlessly clean and really comfortable throughout our stay. The cottage was in a very quiet and peaceful location on the edge of Brigsteer village. What we learned about Brigsteer was that it had no facilities or amenities other than the Wheatsheaf pub. None of the roads had street names or any road signs. I think you could include a map of the village on your web site to aid finding the place. We liked the garden and the wonderful views it provided over the Lyth Valley, what made us uncomfortable using the garden was not being able to see the door / entrance into the cottage. The steep steps up to the garden were a bit of a drawback for my wife who found it tough going to get up and down the steps. I had a constant worry that someone could enter and rob us whilst we were relaxing in the garden. I mastered the car parking space but for me whilst I could park my car off road. It was a disappointment that my wife could not open the near side door to get out of the car. The cottage description on your web site did not mention that there would be restrictions on using the car parking space.

  In 2019 I would expect WiFi as it is our choice not to use it, we cut our holiday short because of this as needed this to do some work that I needed to complete, they should advertise this at the booking! Very disappointed

  This is a company serviced cottage, so though clean there are no extras like tea, coffee, milk etc. Also, though there is a wood burning stove and logs there were no matches or kindling. Any future guests should take care not to lock the external door with the key when inside but use the bolts instead as it is absolutely impossible to unlock it from the inside, fortunately my husband had read a previous review which suggested opening the top half of the stable door and reaching down and unlocking it from outside. This really should be dealt with as a matter of urgency. Despite these issues I would definitely recommend this cottage as a lovely place to stay.

  Beautiful location, very quiet and peaceful. Lovely walks from cottage though very steep and hilly in places. Had never cooked on an aga before and was a bit apprehensive, but loved it. Easy reach of many great places to visit, particularly enjoyed Levens hall and topiary gardens, Ulverston, Blackwell Arts and Crafts house and the Buddest temple and free meditation experience at Bardsea followed be a lovely walk through their extensive woodland grounds and down to the sea overlooking Morecambe Bay.

  Very comfortable, clean and has a good range of facilities. Close to some lovely walks, for example to Sizergh Castle. The local Wheatsheaf Inn in the village is really friendly and serves excellent food.

• "The cottage itself was equipped with all you could possible need for a week away including an abundance of board games that kept my two sons entertained."

  Generally clean throughout, (although could do with a deep clean as particularly dusty in places) the cottage was lovely for our week away, picturesque scenery and very peaceful. I would like to bring your attention to the front door. Once locked from the inside you can not unlock the lower of the two locks without opening the top half of the door (Farm style door) and unlocking from the outside. This was a slight annoyance with two excited children trying to get out the door and had this not been a farm style door we would not of been able to get out. The Arga made the cottage uncomfortably warm at times and we holidayed in May. This also caused concern with a 5 & 3 year old as it was warm/hot to touch in places. On the plus side this did cook food beautifully. Overall we had a lovely week away in the lakes, the pub down the road served delicious food and there are some stunning places to visit.

  I highly recommend Honeypot Cottage its very cosy, comfortable very well furnished and decorated to very high standards. We loved the log burner and Aga both very easy to use .The warmth from the Aga range in the kitchen made entering the cottage so welcoming. The cottage has everything you need for a perfect stay. The views from the garden are spectacular across the valley. The Wheatsheaf pub which is in walking distance serves excellent tasty food.Highly recommend a visit or two but book up first as its very popular.

• "Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous setting, very picturesque, didn't want to leave and will definetly be back, only went out to eat one evening, as I loved cooking on the aga, lots of board games to play, lots of hot water for a bath in the luxorious tub, after a good day's walking in the surrounding countryside or visiting numerous villages and towns in close proximity, log burner for that cozy feel although not always needed with the heat from the aga and central heating."

  The pub down the road is nice and the food is really good although I found the menu a bit lacking. The only negatives we had were hardly any country houses or castles that we were hoping to visit were open, we went early March so would probably go a bit later next time, but all in all the cottage was everything I wanted with a little bit more, can't wait to return

  It is cosy, comfortable & very well furnished & decorated. It was very clean & tidy & every home comfort had been thought about. The warmth from the Aga range in the kitchen made entering the cottage so welcoming. There were books, DVD’s, games and cards all provided if required. The views from the garden are spectacular. The information on the cottage & surrounding attractions & pubs/restaurants was extensive & extremely helpful. The Wheatsheaf pub which is in walking distance was delightful with tasty food. The best thing about our holiday was returning to the home from home cottage after a long day sightseeing.

• "Loved Honeypot Cottage, it was as we expected from the very accurate photos."

  Ideally located for exploring the lakes. Warm cosy and everything you need for your holiday is provided. The Aga was easy to use and gives the kitchen a warm cosy feeling. As the weather closed in the wood burning fire in the living room gave the cottage that rustic warmth and smell. We walked to Sizergh castle which was a pleasant afternoon out. Beware that the cottage is situated on a steep hill which could become sloppy in winter. Would definitely stay here again, highly recommended - loved the cottage and the surrounding area.

• "We checked in late in the evening and woke to stunning views across the plains."

  Honey Pot is comfortable, well equipped and well positioned in Brigsteer. It is off the main road through the village and makes for a quiet stay. Hot shower, comfortable bed and super log burner in the cold November evenings. What a treat. One negative was the amount of light bulbs out of order. We counted six and couldn’t read in the lounge as too dark.
