"We loved our stay at Ginnel cottage."
The setting is just beautiful and we loved sitting on the terrace or in the window looking over the valley. The owners were really helpful and provided lots of useful information. Lovely cottage which would recommend. Its is reached only by fairly steep steps which may not be appropriate for everyone.
Thank you for your lovely words! But just to note for others - the cottage has 2 points of access, one of then is entirely flat, with no steps at all. We take great efforts to tell all our guests to read and note how to walk to the cottage this way and ask them to respond to confirm they have read and understood the two, simple routes to the house :-) Property Owner

The property
A delightful end-terrace cottage located in the West Yorkshire village of Golcar. This family-friendly cottage boasts stunning moorland views stretching for miles across the valley to the surrounding moorland and hills. The owners have tastefully renovated this charming 1830’s weaver’s cottage to present its original features, including flagged flooring, beams, open stonework and mullioned windows. Enter onto the ground floor, where you’ll find three comfy bedrooms, the two delightful main bedrooms boasting breathtaking views, which will immediately catch your eye. The floor is complete with a family bathroom, equipped with a first-class suite fitted around the rustic, exposed wall. Head to the lower ground floor where you’ll find the spacious, characterful sitting room, which offers a piano, a plentiful library and a collection of quirky seats, perfect for sinking into after lighting the large woodburner. The picturesque village of Golcar boasts independent shops and eateries, and to really enjoy the sights and sounds, be sure to follow the Ginnel Trails around the village, marked by plaques on the walls with maps also available in the local museum only a few doors away. Recommended places to eat and drink include the next-door villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden; the most up and coming places in the region and crammed with vintage shops and award-winning cafes and restaurants such as the Handmade Bakery and ‘Rumpus.’ A beautiful 20 mins walk away is the family-run Bolster Moor Farm Shop, with its on-site butchers, bakery, deli and café. For those looking to really treat themselves, the Titanic Spa is also five minutes’ drive from the cottage. Slightly further afield you’ll find the tourist village of Holmfirth, famous for TV’s ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ and the bustling market town of Huddersfield, excellent for a day out shopping or sampling the great range of old and new pubs, as well as many varied top class eating establishments. With the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District National Parks making up the landscape of the area this charming cottage – and with the Lakes District only slightly further away - the cottage is ideally situated for exploring some of the country's finest countryside. Whatever the weather, the views from Ginnel Corner cannot be beaten.

Where you’ll be staying
GOLCAR
Slaithwaite 1.2 miles; Huddersfield 2.5 miles; Holmfirth 7.5 miles.
Golcar (pronounced 'Goh-ker' locally) is a village nestled on a hillside crest above the Colne Valley, 2.5 miles from Huddersfield, alongside the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Golcar played an important part in the Industrial Revolution as a weaving centre, and with its rich textile heritage, it now provides a delightful holiday base, made up of charming cobbled streets and local shops including an award-winning farm shop and restaurant, Golcar Brewery, a butcher, bakery, delicatessen and a range of inns and eateries. Enjoy stunning walks through dramatic moorland countryside, along river or canalside to the quaint villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden on the one side of Golcar, or right into the heart of the large market town of Huddersfield, with its excellent leisure facilities and its fine Victorian architecture, in the other direction. Spend sunny afternoons in the nearby historic villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden - with their collections of unique shops and independent pubs serving locally-sourced artisan delights. Titanic Spar is also a 10 minute walk away at the bottom of the valley, offering a range of swim, sauna and bespoke spa treatments all year round. The village of Holmfirth, made famous by BBC TV's Last Of The Summer Wine series is also well worth a visit, less than eight miles away. Just nine miles away is the popular town of Halifax and its stunning architecture where you can visit the newly renovated 'Piece Hall.' Golcar is also perfectly placed for those who are interested in art and literature; the Bronte's Haworth and Ted Hughes/ Sylvia Plath's Hebden Bridge being located just a short journey away. And if you want to brave 'red rose' territory (Lancashire) and learn about the life and work of the navvies (as features in BBC's 'Jericho, filmed just a couple of miles away) you will want to visit both the Saddleworth Moors and Britain's longest canal tunnel – 'Tunnel End Visitor Centre'; only five miles away. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park; offering a wealth of wonderful outdoor activities amongst stunning scenery steeped in history and with numerous local festivals (Golcar Lily Day, Marsden Jazz Festival, the Cuckoo and Moonraking Festivals), Golcar provides an excellent base for your West Yorkshire getaway.
