The grounds were not what we expected from the pictures as there was a lot of building work going on so environment was not as pretty as we expected.
The WiFi was not reliable and went off at intervals.

"A perfect stay in wonderful accommodation in a beautiful part of the Peak District."
Lovely countryside walks on the doorstep, including the pretty village of Longnor and the friendly pub which is just a few minutes walk from the property. We did lots of exploring but enjoyed returning to Elmwood for cosy evenings where we had all we could possibly need, including a generous welcome pack which was an added bonus! We are full of admiration for Phillip and Shirley and their loving restoration of The Old Sawmill. We would love to return and would highly recommend this apartment to future guests. "We have stayed at a number of lovely Sykes cottages over the years, but Elmwood is the most immaculately created and presented by some distance."
The craftsmanship on show is wonderful, and the layout and fittings provide for an extremely comfortable and uplifting stay. It was spotlessly clean. The owners are terrific: super-friendly, generous and helpful, but leave you to enjoy your holiday. Location allowed for access to a great mix of lovely walking and visits to places of interest. Hayfield and Kinder Scout circular walk (10.9m) was absolutely fantastic.

"Lovely relaxing stay at Elmwood at the Old Saw Mill."
Elmwood has everything and more you would need for your stay and is immaculate in every way.
Phil was a great host and provided a really interesting tour of the building and his history with it.
Shops, a tasty Chippy and a lovely pub (we tried them all!) are just a short walk away on a quiet road. We would definitely return.

"Elmwood is a stunning holiday property which sets the bar for others extremely high."
We relaxed as soon as we set foot inside. All the amenities are of a high standard and nothing has been missed. Walk in shower with lashing of hot water was very welcomed after walks in the surrounding hills as was the king sized bed. Great location for walks from the doorstep and travel to Buxton or Bakewell.
The host left us an amazing welcome pack which included bread, milk, wine, small jams, tea, coffee etc and was very much appreciated. They have put their heart and soul into the restoration of the Saw Mill and it is a fascinating building. We wish them all the very best for the future and we will certainly be booking again.

Lovely and peaceful surroundings and great location to explore the surrounding area and the Peak District highlights. Chatsworth is close by and a must, and the farm shop cafe in nearby Hartington does a lovely breakfast. Buxton is close too with all the amenties and some great restaurants to try. We are looking forward to our next visit in the future and to see how the owners are progressing with the sawmill and the fabulous and heroic work that the family are doing to save such a beautiful building.

"Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings."
My partner and I had a wonderful three night stay here and would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a relaxing stay in the Peak District.
Only a couple of very minor issues. First, the kitchen area has very little available space for food preparation, so if you're thinking of cooking a meal then you may have to get creative. Second, the paving stones outside can become *very* slippery. We stayed during one of these storms which are currently sweeping across the country and there was a lot of rain. In gentler weather I'm sure it's fine. Be careful!
But this is tantamount to nit-picking and overall I would rate this is an exceptional property. The bathroom and bedroom are finished to a very high standard, the living room is compact but comfortable, on-site parking, and very friendly hosts.

The information pack was really useful showing all the different local walks and also the history of the The Old Sawmill. The village shop is less than a 10 minute walk and the pub too! Philip justifiably proud of his woodworking skills and very happy to discuss the rebuild whilst showing us round his impressive workshop.

Very well done out to a high standard and owners very nice people. We loved the way it had been done to keep the charm of the old saw mill . Beautiful arched wooden windows and all amenities of a very high standard. Just lacking a bit of work top space in the kitchen but you can't have everything can you?
Longnor was only a few minutes walk away with a lovely fish shop and pub doing food. We thought the village very nice with a lovely church and a lot of history. We found plenty of nice places to visit in the area with out having to drive to far.

Good walks close by. Everything is of a very high standard. Nothing has been overlooked. The kitchen is extraordinarily well equipped for a holiday let. A luxurious bathroom, which would have been even better if there had been more hot water to fill the lovely bath. A very comfortable bed with high quality bedding. The attention to detail on the owners hand crafted doors and window frames give an indication of the love which is going into this restoration. An invitation to tour the onsite workshop was an education and a joy. We will be keen to revisit soon.

"A beautiful apartment in a lovely setting."
The inside is immaculate. Could be difficult if you're not steady on your feet as it's marble flooring but lovely otherwise. Very helpful owners who were available to ask for advice and keen to show us round the renovation.

Even the kitchen utensils exceeded our expectations. The Saw Mill is set in beautiful countryside and proved an ideal touring base for the White Peak district. The owners live on site and couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The whole Mill is being converted to holiday lets by the owners and completed to a new "Gold Standard" for self catering accommodation. For any man with woodworking knowledge, Philip's standard of cabinet making leaves one in awe. We had a most enjoyable week at this property and will return.

For us the location was ideal walking within easy reach, visiting NT and places of interest within easy driving covering three Counties.
Such hospitality from the owners and very interesting history of their commitment to detail and such high standards in the renovation. Made this a very memorable week.

The flat is fitted out to a very high standard
and the family's lengthy and ongoing project to renovate the sawmill is inspiring. The whole building is beautiful and in a lovely position well located for local Peak District attractions.

It is immaculate. Each door, window, cabinet, and several of the pieces of furniture have been handmade by the owner and demonstrate a remarkable level of craftsmanship. The property is fascinating and the nearby village and countryside are lovely. The hosts were warm and gracious. We would definitely return!

Lying in the village of Longnor, in the magnificent Peak District is this modern apartment built inside an old water-powered saw mill, with beautiful handcrafted woodwork and architecture, Elmwood will be a dream getaway for you and your partner.
The open-plan living space is made bright with light coming through the handmade arched windows, and onto the lovely wooden fitted kitchen area complete with oven, microwave and induction hob for cooking up delicious meals.
The sitting area hosts a plush two seater sofa for snuggling up on in front of the TV after a long day of walking in the fresh air, while the luxurious king-size bed awaits you in the bedroom so you can drift of in comfort and wake up refreshed.
The stylish bathroom benefits from a separate shower and bath, and there is a courtyard outside where you can use the garden furniture to sit at when the sun is out, while two spaces for off-road parking are available on site as well.

Elmwood And Lacewood
Out of Longnor village on the way to Leek, tucked away off the main road, you will find this stunning old, converted water-powered sawmill, a large stone building which is now home to these two idyllic apartments, Elmwood and Lacewood. Both properties come fully equipped with a handcrafted wooden kitchen, sitting area and dining space, as well as a king-size bedroom and spacious bathroom. An outside courtyard can be shared between the properties so everyone can enjoy the sunshine - if we get any! - and space for off-road parking for two cars per property is available. Longnor can offer you the essentials in this lovely market village, with a few pubs, shops, and cafes available, with larger towns like Bakewell and Buxton not far away at all - less than a 10-mile car journey. With the River Manifold being just a short walk away from you, why not begin your walk by strolling along the river, with walks ranging from short ambles to serious upland treks. Over in Bakewell, known for its delicious pudding, head to Haddon Hall, a medieval and Tudor manor house popularly chosen for films and TV programmes and steeped in history, you can walk through the well-preserved rooms and around the picturesque gardens before heading to the gift shop for a souvenir, and the restaurant for a Bakewell tart! Afterwards go and visit the Peak Ales Visitor Centre to have a tasting session of the best tasty ales that the Peaks have to offer, with a Gin distillery now being on site as well and a shop, and a lovely team running it all and ready to answer any curious questions about the brewing process. Up to Buxton, you will find a lot of things to do in the famous spa town, like visiting the classic Georgian architecture across the city, like the Crescent, the Pump Rooms and the Opera House. The charming Peak District village of Longnor is situated in beautiful countryside on the Staffordshire Moorlands/Derbyshire border, with the River Dove to the east and the River Manifold to the west, making an excellent touring centre. The local village contains a shop, a Post Office, fish and chip shop, and a beautiful church. The historic market square is cobbled and a scale of market charges is still posted on a board outside the market hall. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, the Spa town of Buxton with its famous Opera House, the attractive market town of Bakewell and Alton Towers theme park are all within easy reach.
