  • "Shame we had a dehumidifier running 24/7."

..skin dried & a dry mouth daily. Not sure it was doing its job as cupboards smelt fausty! Shower hard to get to an even temperature..scalding hot or stone cold do no shower for us, strip wash daily! Water pressure at bathroom basin hot tap, very low. Appreciate it's a 200+yr old cottage but gloomy so needed lights on all day. Village lovely & had a nice meal at the pub. The village store was a little treasure trove...gifts & items you may have run out of ! Not somewhere we'd recommend , definitely not Sykes normal standard.

I have followed you into the cottage. The bathroom was refurbished in December last year and the shower was installed new. It is obviously faulty as I have found out myself now I'm here and my plumber is coming tomorrow to fit a new one so I do apologise. With regard to your remark about the cottage being gloomy it is a 400 year old cottage and large modern windows were not the theme of the day. The dehumidifier has to run 24/7 as there is obviously no damp proofing in the cottage and without it the cottage would be wet, damp and mouldy. So sorry you didn't have a good time but in 12 years of letting the cottage I usually get glowing reports from holidaymakers that stay here and have lots of repeat bookings. Property Owner

The property

Churchgate Cottage is a 17th century cottage situated beside the church in the heart of Blisland.

With views over the traditional village green, it is a dear little cottage with a warm welcome.

Head into the cosy open plan living space with charming beams, where you can snuggle up beside the electric fire or prepare meals in the well equipped kitchen.

At the end of a busy day, the two bedrooms are cosy and comfy with views of the green or church.

If you don't feel like cooking, just wander across the green to the good pub for supper or the village shop offers a café and internet access.

If cycling is your thing, the Camel Trail will take you on a family-friendly level route through lovely countryside and along the estuary as far as Padstow.

A visit to the sea is a must, either to the picture-book fishing harbour at Port Isaac or the fabulous sand/surf beaches at Rock and Polzeath.

For town amenities, Bodmin is within easy reach and you can visit an old jail there too if you dare.

With good walks and lots to explore in the area, Churchgate Cottage is an excellent village base.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline. A fabulous part of the country for all!
