"The directions for finding Cherry Tree Cottage aren't very clear."
Should read 'When you get to Satterthwaite turn into cul-de-sac signposted 'Tea room and Studio' then turn into courtyard on the left signposted 'Marjorie's Barn'

"Fabulous well-equipped cottage in a great location for exploring Grizedale forest with its varied waymarked walks."
The Autumn colours were spectacular. A short drive takes you to the Beatrix Potter house in Near Sawrey and Coniston and Hawkshead are nice places to visit together with Wray Castle – especially for children. The local pub is great with good food and a friendly atmosphere. Lots of boards games, books and DVDs for rainy days. A lovely cosy cottage.

"We had a great stay at Cherry Tree Cottage."
It had everything we needed , an excellent kitchen with every utensil you could think of, the cottage has been beautifully kept, the bedrooms were comfortable, the bathroom was excellent, overall fantastic.
Satterthwaite is so quite and peaceful an ideal place to recharge.

"Took us a while to work out the tv, but everything else was great."
Lovely house, great facilities. Only downside is the remoteness of the village, no local shop. Roads winding and narrow. Despite this we had a great holiday. Thank you.

"Lovely, very well equipped and characterful cottage well placed for Grizedale and for the major lakes."
The Eagle’s Head pub is a few minutes walk and provides a limited menu and a great chicken pie if you choose to eat there. It rained most of the time we were there (flooded roads were common), but the cottage’s entrance hall is roomy enough for taking off wet coats and shoes. The heating is managed remotely and we found it too warm at times. There is an override option but we didn’t like to touch it. There is also an intricate lighting system. The bathroom light comes on via a sensor and we found it disturbing during the night at times. We brought a supply of cleaning items and tea towels having read previous reviews, but we found these amply supplied on arrival which was a nice surprise. I would definitely go there again -hopefully in kinder weather conditions. It is well placed for exploring by road and off road bike and the roads are a little quieter than some of the more major tourist hubs

"A beautiful cottage, very well looked after in a very lovely part of the Lake District."
The only issue was actually finding it, but once we did, we loved the cottage and everything about it.
The local pub serves great home comfort food and even accommodated for gluten free.
A great central location for getting around the lakes. Would definitely book again!

"Cherry Tree Cottage is in a great location to explore the southern Lakes."
It was very comfortable, well-equipped and (apart from the padlocks on a room upstairs), very homely. We recommend this cottage for your holiday!
There was tea, coffee and sugar in the property but do bring your own milk if you want a drink on arrival. Practical details that we'd have found useful: A reminder that the details state that no tea towels are provided. The hand soap was appreciated but you will need to bring hand towels for the kitchen and downstairs loo. There was washing-up liquid but no sponge/dish cloth for wiping surfaces and no kitchen towel.

The bathroom light was very bright at night time and we'd have appreciated being able to switch it off.
The property was quite dusty (top of bed frames and horizontal banister was very dusty) and the corners/edges of the room was dusty with dead flies. Cobwebs were noticeable.

"Wonderful location."
Very good facilities. Beautiful house design and furniture. I particularly enjoy the high artistic taste of the paintings and other decorations. There are plenty of things prepared for a pretty comfortable stay. The only thing which affected my rating is that the bedding was not well arranged in order on our arrival, messy, with the towels not dried properly. We talked to the cleaners when we left - they believed the previous cleaners for our arrival did not do proper job.

"My family and I stayed at Cherry Tree Cottage at Satterthwaite for a week and thought the cottage was in a great location, having never holidayed in the Lake District before it seemed pretty central to all we wanted to see/do."
The cottage itself was lovely, split over 3 floors as described, a little cobwebby in places but thats to be expected in an older property such as this. My family's only comments would be that the addition of Tea/Coffee/Sugar being present in the property would have been a nice touch, especially after a long drive from the South East, and although we knew the 2nd bedroom housed a double bed, having been in the property and imagining other families staying there, I feel this room would be so much more useful with 2x single beds, just a suggestion :)
My only other comment to whoever stays here is to ENSURE you visit the Eagles Head pub in Satterthwaite, 5 mins walk away, great food, great ales, well worth a visit!

"The cottage was in a lovely location."
We had a few problems with Sykes themselves in regards to our check in time being delayed due to a cleaner not being able to get there. But also there was no WIFI the whole time on our holiday even though we raised it the first night we got there. The boiler and hot water then also broke which thankfully did get fixed a few hours later. Other than that the property was nice but does need de-cobwebbing.

"I was pleasantly surprised with the cottage."
After reading some reviews I was a bit worried. The cottage was clean and comfortable. A lot of things supplied in the cottage to make our stay enjoyable.Carpets all looked new. The garden had been cut back and was tidy.
Downside was we had no hot water or heating when we arrived. Help came quickly but for four days we had to keep resetting the system. Then finally someone came again when we were out and it was finally fixed.
Two pointers
1.The pillows on the bed in the bigger room need replacing.
2.A couple of larger serving spoons in the kitchen would be helpful.
Overall a very nice clean and welcoming cottage

G. in the smaller bedroom - corner on left hand side of the bed. The heating needs sorting out. Worked for two days, then we had to keep resetting in order to get hot water and radiators rarely worked. However, Sykes provided separate electric heaters quickly. The plants in the garden need to be cut back. There was no proper manual with up to date info on manuals, useful telephone numbers, suggestions for restaurants etc. and no guest book. Strange. Loved the lounge - very nicely set up and lots of interesting artwork throughout the house. A couple more serving spoons would be useful. Otherwise, the kitchen was good. Nice area for hanging coats, storing boots etc. The bathroom was okay, nice hot and powerful shower but the bathtub felt as if it would collapse any moment.

"Cherry Tree Cottage is a characterful and comfortable cottage, in a lovely location."
It is well equipped with lots of kitchen utensils and books, maps and DVDs. The bathroom and kitchen could do with a freshen up and the garden was overgrown (cutting back the overhanging branches would make this much more pleasant and let some light in). Disappointingly when we arrived the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes and there was a pan full of used cooking oil on the oven which was unpleasant and didn’t fill us with confidence re the general cleaning of the property.

"4 pm check in is late as it is so when we arrived at 4 pm and the cleaner was still there we were disappointed and frustrated."
We could not gain access for 35 mins, which was difficult as we had a tired and hungry toddler who was fed up of being in the car. We attempted to go to the one local pub but were refused entry as they were expecting bookings from five. Again, at this point it was probably 4.15 and there was one table occupied but the pub was otherwise empty. The staff member was rude too. I know this isn’t Sykes’ fault but you ought to know that the local pub is not hospitable. Overall we had a rough start. We were particularly disappointed with this as we’d paid so much for it. I also don’t think the property represents value for money, especially with the late check in and early check out. You could pay less and stay in better. Next time we will.

Although located remotely in the village of Satterthwaite it's a very pretty 20-minute drive to Ambleside with all its facilities. There are also great walks on your doorstep in Satterthwaite and a very nice pub!

Cherry Tree Cottage is a lovely little cottage in the sleepy hamlet of Satterthwaite, flanked by Hawkshead on one side and Lake Windermere on the other.
The property enjoys seclusion, but is also just a short stroll from the village pub.

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.
The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
