• "A beautifully presented cottage that has everything you need for a comfortable stay."

  The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery, and cookware. The bed is extremely comfortable, and the underfloor heating makes the cottage feel very cozy. We were also provided with plenty of towels and cleaning products. The box of chocolates and bottle of wine were a lovely welcoming surprise and very much appreciated.

• "Bear cottage is the best cottage for facilities we've been to."

  Short of nothing we needed in the kitchen or anywhere else. Very quiet setting surrounded by beautiful countryside and so many trees. Ruth & Ian were great hosts, lived next door and available if needed. Very close to lots of interesting places to visit. The heage windmill is a must, so full of history. The great British car museum was so interesting and nostalgic. It's only 30 miles to royal arboretum which we have wanted to visit for a long time. Beautifully kept and very peaceful.   The hosts were very warm and welcoming which put us at ease straight away. The area itself was wonderful and we found things to do, every day. The accommodation was very well kept, it was extremely clean and tidy and well maintained. We will definitely be returning for another holiday there.

• "We had a lovely, comfortable week at Bear Cottage, enjoying the position high on a hill with the views all around and the walks from the door."

  In fact we only used the car twice, once for some shopping and once to visit Denby Pottery Village, otherwise we walked and relaxed. This was our first time in this area and we're hoping to come back to Bear Cottage in the not too distant future. Thank you Ruth for proving such a lovely place to stay (and the wine and chocolates were lovely too).

• "We've had such a lovely relaxing holiday at Bear Cottage."

  Its one of the nicest cottages we've ever stayed in. The decor is beautiful and incredible attention to detail. The cottage is ideally situated for visiting a number of National Trust properties, and we hightly recommend a trip to Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall, and if up to travelling slightly further afield, Lyme Park. The cottage was snug, cosy and warm ......no idea whats happened to Summer, as the tempertures outside felt like Autumn. Our thanks to Ruth and Ian for their warm welcome, and thanks too, for the wine and chocolates. We highly recommend Bear Cottage.

  The views from the cottage are amazing, especially at sunset. It's a very quiet farm. The donkeys are delightful. An excellent location for visiting the delights Derbyshire has to offer. Highly recommend visiting Calke Abbey, British Motor Museum, Melbourne, Carsington Water, etc. Thank you once again to Ruth and Ian.

• "The cottage was extremely comfortable, very well equipped and warm in what was a cold week."

  It was a grand place in which to relax. The views from the cottage were beautiful. We drove no further than six miles, but went for short walks in the interesting local countryside, finding the remains of the Cromford Canal, the unusual church at Heage, the quirky local shop and the excellent Black Boy pub. Ruth was an excellent host (the chocs and wine much appreciated) and Liv sorted out our internet problems in double quick time. Excellent.

  Everything was done with great care and attention for all our needs . It very clean and tidy . We had some lovely walks in the surrounding area and even had one right from the cottage door .   As well as being beautifully furnished and very roomy, it was equipped with things that are often missing in other properties, such as teapot, slow cooker, plentiful crockery, cleaning items, lots of towels, loo roll etc.

• "Gorgeous cottage in a very tranquil setting but also really close to places such as Bakewell, cromford and Carsington water."

  Everything immaculate in the cottage and the bed was really comfy. Lovely to have breakfast looking out at the view and listening to the donkeys braying! Wine and chocolates left for us by Ruth the owner which was a lovely touch. Spent every late afternoon in the cottage just chilling and enjoying the view. Table, two chairs, umbrella and bbq on the outside patio for the summer. Will definitely recommend Bear Cottage to all our family and friends.

  The Bear Cottage was perfect for a long weekend. The property was clean, cosy and comfortable with a modern interior and offered everything that you could possibly need for your stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely return in the future. The Donkeys and Horses were also a welcome surprise and a joy to wake up to every morning.   This was our second stay, we love it. Your alarm call each morning will be the sound of horses hooves clip clopping & the occasional donkey bray. The view over the fields has to be seen. Ruth & Ian were only a text away if we needed anything. Perfection.

  The cottage was warm, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. A very comfortable bed and the kitchen very well equipped. Although it didn't inconvenience me, as I travel with my own, there seemed to be a lack of a hairdryer. Farm setting very peaceful and relaxing.

  The cottage is so warm, which was perfect for walks on cold January days. Good local walks, and easy drives to Cromford and walks in the Peak District.

• "Bear Cottage is comfortable and welcoming a perfect base for us visiting family and friends."

  The kitchen is well equipped if eating in, there are good takeaways close by and The Spanker Inn a short drive away, is cosy friendly and serves good food. Watching the horses and donkeys, the views and being able to see the stars at night are all added bonuses. Ruth is a lovely host, welcoming, helpful and un-instrusive. A lovely stay.

• "Lovely warm welcome with a box of chocolates and wine."

  The cottage was super clean, kitted with equipment well and attention for detail. It had everything you would need provided. Lovely comfy reclining sofa and hypnos bed. Would highly recommend for a comfortable and quiet stay away.

• "A beautiful cottage."

  Extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners were very welcoming and I would thoroughly recommend a stay here. Very close to the edge of the Peak District and easy to get to. My husband is disabled so we find it very difficult to find suitable accommodation- this is all on the level with no steps and the bathroom was fabulous with only a very small lip into the shower itself. Hopefully this information will help others looking for suitable holiday accommodation for people with mobility issues.

• "Bear Cottage is a lovely place to stay, definitely 5 star accommodation with top quality furnishings and fittings."

  The cottage is extremely well equipped and was immaculately clean. The owner was on hand to answer any queries and offer information but not at all intrusive. Although on a working farm it was quiet and peaceful. The views are lovely and there are lots of nice walks from the door as well as being well placed for exploring the Derbyshire Dales.

• "It was one of our favourite stays we’ve ever done, we managed to get lucky with the weather which fit perfectly with the type of property it was lovely and open and we could let the fresh air in."

  We rang about the BBQ and they kindly came over and gave us some coal over all it was just what we needed for a nice break i would definitely come back. Our favourite part was the bathroom we fell in love

• "Please don't be put off by the description "working farm", it's home to horses, ponies and a pair of cute little donkeys, oh and the odd tractor moving hay."

  The location is fantastic, it's quiet and unrushed, we just switched off and admired the view. Bear Cottage is very well equipped, very clean, light and spacious. Our hosts, Ruth and Ian were only a text message away if we needed anything (which we didn't, everything had been thought of). We thoroughly recommend Bear Cottage and will be back. :o) :o)

• "Close to and easily accessed from the A38, Bear Cottage sits in a quiet, scenic backwater with walks from the doorstep and shop, pubs, chippy etc nearby."

  It is well placed for visits to the many National Trust properties and country parks in the area. The cottage is clean, light and spacious, comfortable and well equipped, The separate dining room is a great feature, the bathroom is excellent and also has heated towel rail. The patio gets sun from mid morning right through to sunset. The owners are charming, and on hand if needed. We had a great week. Sykes photos do not do the property justice.

  The view from the living area is lovely and rural and watching the horses being led by while eating breakfast was a treat. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We received an email while travelling with clear directions and she came to say hello and to check that we had everything we needed (we certainly did). We would definitely return, thank you.

• "We arrived the evening of Monday 13th of December very tired as we had moved from our house and Ruth greeted us with a lovely welcome and when we went inside the barn it was warm and welcoming with a lovely welcome basket and all the comforts of home."

  The barn is in a lovely location with beautiful views. It was great being around the horses and donkeys. Both Ruth and Ian made us feel so welcome over the three weeks we stayed - definitely would recommend Bear Cottage for a holiday break.
