  • "An excellent cottage in a beautiful situation."

    Very well equipped, warm and comfortable so had a very enjoyable stay and hope to return. Only negative was a rather firm mattress in main bedroom which we found uncomfortable but realise that mattresses are very subjective. Perhaps a topper would help so people can choose the level of firmness. The dogs loved the garden which was very safe for them.

But it is so much more than just that.

Boasting a warm and welcoming interior, the cottage makes its guests feel at home straight away with an inviting sitting room with snugly sofas, feature windows showcasing those all-important beach views and to finish the space, an attractive woodburning stove which really helps to make visitors feel relaxed and stress-free.

Imagine curling up here with the family to talk about your action-packed day while the ever-changing weather outside provides a welcome distraction.

Step into the spacious kitchen which is equipped with everything you need to whip up a mouth-watering meal before sitting down around the elegant dining table to enjoy your culinary efforts and take in the wonderful sea and mountain views.

The bedrooms offer a real sanctuary to weary travellers and mum and dad can luxuriate in the super king-size bedroom (complete with en-suite) while the kids chill out in the stylish twin bedroom.

Stepping outside and visitors are greeted by beautiful lush, fenced gardens which have simply outstanding views all around.

The glorious beach at Princes Bay is just a few miles and children love collecting cowrie shells here.

Askernish Golf Course is a short drive away and if you’re in the mood for a scenic drive then you can’t do much better than driving the 20 mile stretch of fine sandy beaches and machair (flower strewn dunes) from South Uist to North Uist.

If sailing is on your bucket list this holiday then you can sail to the simply breath-taking island of Barra from here or take a boat over to Mingulay and keep an eye out for puffins.

You must call in at Lochboisdale while you’re on South Uist, worth a visit in its own right or to catch a ferry to explore neighbouring islands.

If you’re looking for a holiday to truly get away from it all, then a visit to Beach View Cottage on South Uist has to be done.

The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy, or Oban to Lochboisdale.

DALIBURGH, ISLE OF SOUTH UIST

Lochboisdale 3 miles; Ludag, 6.2 miles; Benbecula 24.8 miles.

Daliburgh is a town on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and is known for being a crofting town. There is a memorial here to commemorate the life and works of Donald Allan MacDonald, a Gaelic poet who lived in Daliburgh in the mid 20th century. It is a great base from which to explore a fantastic selection of activities from fishing and walking to diving and birdwatching. The nearby Askernish Golf Course is always popular and was originally designed by ‘Old’ Tom Morris and is popular with golfers keen to test themselves on this challenging course. Dining options include fish and chips from the Burnside Chip Shop or for something a little more fancy dine in at the Borrodale Hotel. While you are in Daliburgh you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket and there is also a number of other shops including gifts shops. A short distance from Daliburgh is the fascinating Kildonan Museum and the birthplace of Flora MacDonald as well as a host of fabulous beaches just waiting to be discovered.
